What Does FDN-P Mean?

A Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) Practitioner.

What Does An FDN-P Do?

You can think of FDN-Ps as “health detectives” who uncover root causes of dysfunction in the body. An FDN-P doesn’t chase symptoms in an endless cycle of trial and error. Instead, they help you understand why those symptoms occur.

FDN-Ps use functional lab work to identify healing opportunities. In doing so, we aim to restore the body to normal function with without having to “diagnose” or “treat”. The goal of the FDN-P is to guide their clients. They do this through customized diet and lifestyle programs. This helps clients develop a skillset that enables them to remain healthy for a lifetime.

What is AIP?

The Autoimmune Protocol, also called the Autoimmune Paleo Diet,  is an anti-inflammatory gut-healing elimination diet and lifestyle protocol for those dealing with autoimmune diseases. Similarly to FDN, it also recognizes the importance of exercise, rest, and stress reduction in the healing process.

While many foods are strictly forbidden during the elimination phase of the diet, it’s much easier to emphasize the nutrient-dense foods that can be enjoyed! These include: Pasture-raised / Grass-fed animal proteins, Organ meats, Wild-caught fish, Clams, Oysters, Bone broth, Fermented foods, various fruits, veggies, and healthy fats like coconut oil, olive oil, and tallow.

Inflammatory foods forbidden during the elimination phase include: All Grains, Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Eggs, Alcohol, Nightshades (tomatoes, white potatoes, eggplant, etc.) Nuts, and Seeds/Seed-based spices and oils.

Don’t worry! Many foods can often be successfully reintroduced after a strict elimination phase – going AIP is not a life sentence!

Can You Work With Me Across State Lines?

Yes – Many of my clients are across state lines! The growing field of “telemedicine” allows the flexibility for clients to schedule consultations online and communicate from any location in the U.S.

The lab kits we use can be shipped to your home address. You can collect most the samples in the privacy of your own home. Some programs might include a lab test that requires a simple blood draw. This blood draw can be scheduled at a time and place convenient for you. Kits come included with pre-paid mailers which can be dropped off at your local UPS or FedEx location. Turnaround times for lab work varies from 1-5 weeks depending on the lab.

Will Insurance Cover My Lab Work?

In most cases, functional lab assessments are considered alternative medicine, and are not covered under insurance. As a health consultant, I don’t provide insurance billing services of any kind. In many cases, lab fees can be successfully submitted as out-of-pocket medical expenses for reimbursement from a Health Savings Account (HSA).

Additionally, my practitioner fees and the lab fees are usually tax deductible if you itemize health care costs. Check with your tax specialist to be certain.

Are Financing Options Available?

Yes! All package fees can be paid for upfront using an Advance Care Card (pending approval). Advance Care offers options for 6 and 14 months interest for most of my clients. More information on Advance Care can be found at www.advancecarecard.com
